In 2021, the Environmental Health Action Team developed this Food Connection Map to help community members find food resources closest to them and address food insecurity. The team kicked off the project by gathering comprehensive community food resource information, then creating an asset map that includes resources such as food pantries, community and senior meals, local farmers’ markets and farm stands, and product access.
This is truly a collaborative effort and we are grateful to our partners working with us on this important project and all of our work.
About the Map
Use our interactive map below to find resources near you, including food pantries, farmers’ markets, grocery stores, delivery services, and more.
The map includes food pantries, local farms and farmers’ markets, convenience stores, grocery stores, and other retailers that accept SNAP/EBT. Follow the red line, and you can see how these food resources line up with the STS bus route (learn more about the St. Mary’s Transit System and view individual routes here).
To view the map in full screen, click on the “View Larger Map” option in the top right corner of the map.
Layers of the map can be toggled on and off by expanding the menu in the top right corner of the map and clicking on the check box next to the layer title. Below is a description of each layer of the map:
- Buy Local – These Blue map points include resources in our community such as farms, farm stands, and farmers’ markets where you can buy local products including produce, meat, and seafood.
- Food Assistance – The food assistance layer of the map includes Green map points for food pantries and soup kitchens serving the residents of St. Mary’s County as well as Maroon map points for assistance programs (such as the senior home delivered meals program, SNAP, and WIC).
- Gas Station/Convenience Stores – This map layer includes Yellow map points for gas stations and convenience stores that carry basic grocery items.
- Grocery Stores – Within this layer are three types of grocery stores: Purple map points are grocery store chains, Orange map points are smaller markets, and Pink map points are food delivery services
